This is a self-aware song called "Grudges" by Boston-based ska band the Pomps, a relatively recent 2023 release.
I relate to the song a bit too strongly. Is it because of the game-design art scenes I was part of? The music scenes that emotionally defined me? My various fandoms transformed through cycles of fan-creator auteur-ship and omnipresent culture war? Being a traveller along many booms and busts of technology and startups? yep. I'm doing better and starting to learn, and this song reflects that, too.
Please enjoy the lyrics, edited to become more of a prose poem (and I hope you give the song a listen).
I know people defined by their grudges defined by their anger defined by their judgements defined by a need for success But, they can’t get a record to press Your life and times have always been defined by who you love who you hate who you abuse and deceive But, not me Your life and times have always been defined by who you trust who you favor who you try to defeat Oh that's me Yeah, that’s me I know people who need to be known who can’t be alone who need to be shown its ok If you never make a dime but you do it your way

(I love **ska**, and I love every wave of ska, including the nascent "new tone / no wave" revival, the third wave ska-punk of my youth, and all the prior waves that I learned about before. It would be funny if I add "ska" to the esoteric list of topics covered here, right?)
